About the Program
Candidates complete a 43-credit hour Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program over six semesters, including two intensive summer sessions.
The MAT Early Childhood Education program uses hands-on teaching experience, allowing candidates to apply their coursework directly in real classrooms. Mentorship from site-based coaches and University coordinators provides continuous, personalized feedback that fosters growth. Integrated coursework combined with collaborative cohort learning equips candidates with developmentally appropriate strategies for early childhood education, preparing them for impactful teaching careers.
Graduates of the MAT Early Childhood program will be equipped to design and implement developmentally appropriate, engaging learning activities for young children, aligned with early learning standards from birth to grade 2. They will acquire and apply instructional strategies across core subjects, including literacy, numeracy, social sciences, science, and the arts, adapting their methods to meet the unique developmental needs of young learners. Additionally, graduates will engage in reflective, responsive teaching practices, using continuous feedback from mentors and coordinators to support every child's learning journey
